我在美國紐約結識他們――父與子，純屬偶然。
那是在紐約街頭，居然有一位導游手舉著一面五星紅旗，為游客帶隊，引來眾多美國人的注目。

“全國高職高專英語寫作大賽”是由教育部高等學校高職高專英語類專業教學指導委員會主辦，外語教學與研究出版社協辦的國家級英語技能競賽，自從2010年創辦以來，該比賽引起了強烈反響，我校也一直踴躍參加重慶市的選拔賽，并曾取得了重慶市選撥賽一等獎的驕人成績。通過幾屆比賽的歷練，我校公共英語教師在培訓學生參賽方面也積累了十分豐富的經驗，尤其是占比重最大的圖表類寫作，為高職院校公共英語寫作課程改革帶來新的思考。
圖表類寫作分值在該比賽中所占比重最大，為50%，該題型種類多，涉及題材廣，寫作難度高，對參賽學生提出很高要求。圖表類作文主要分為餅狀圖、柱狀圖、曲線圖以及圖表四大類，所涉及的題材涵蓋了經濟、社會、文化等多方面的內容。通過在培訓過程中的探索、總結，可以發現圖表類作文的寫作具有以下特點：
1 規范性與開放性并存
幾乎所有的圖表類作文的題目要求都具有一定的“套路”模式：首先給出一段描述性的題目要求，對該圖標進行一個簡單介紹，但是一般不會涉及到圖表中的數據細節；然后提出要求：首先請描述圖表中的重要數據以及其不同或變化，然后闡釋該變化的原因，最后根據變化的原因，結合個人觀點，得出結論并進行預測。這一系列的題目要求便是圖表類作文的“套路”。仔細分析題目要求，不難發現，其實根據題目所引導的思路，在整個寫作過程中，是遵循規范與表達個性觀點共存的：描述圖表中的數據及其不同以及變化趨勢是遵循規范的表現，在這一部分很難展示出個人觀點；但是在第二部分的分析原因以及第三部分的做出總結并分析趨勢便體現了該題目的“開放性”，因為就某一現象是智者見智仁者見仁的，是與個人的受教育背景、知識面、認知能力、體悟能力等息息相關的，也正是這兩部分真正能夠反映寫作者的水平，拉開差距。
2 重點考察邏輯思維能力
圖表類作文題目的首要要求便是“分析數據的不同及變化趨勢”，該要求重點考察的是
作者的邏輯思維能力。如：2016年公共英語組復賽樣題：
Directions： The chart shows the results of a survey into the number of Chinese
tourists traveling abroad and foreign tourists coming to China from 2008 to 2012.
Read the chart and write a short report （more than 350 words） about the results.
此題要求學生分析歷年中國游客出國旅游以及外國游客到訪中國的趨勢變化，并寫成一份報告。仔細分析該柱狀圖會發現，需要進行兩個數據的雙向對比：首先要對比從2008年至2012年中國游客出國旅游的數量變化以及外國游客到中肼糜蔚氖量變化；同時還要對比每一年這兩個數據的不同。只有通過這樣的雙向對比，才能夠實現橫線及縱向的全方位分析。有些曲線圖所涉及的數據多，走勢復雜，如果沒有清晰的邏輯分析能力，很容易就將這些數據搞混淆。
3 要求寫作者有較豐厚的知識儲備
